DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southern California… In Southern California a large area of thin density smoke due to seasonal burning mixed with some industrial smoke was observed moving in a southerly direction. Florida... Agricultural burning activity was observed throughout Florida. Light density smoke was observed from most of the fire activity progressing northeastward towards the Atlantic Ocean. South-central U.S. … Across the South-central U.S. several light density smoke plumes with areas of moderate density smoke due to seasonal burning were observed with the smoke generally moving in a northeasterly direction. Southern Mexico... In Southern Mexico four large areas of thin density stagnant smoke were visible due to seasonal burning mixed with some industrial smoke. Southwestern Gulf of Mexico... Light density smoke was observed from several offshore drilling platforms in the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico progressing northwestward. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
