SMOKE: Southeastern U.S., Mexico... An area of light-density smoke continues to cover the states of Veracruz, eastern Oaxaca, western Chiapas, and western Tabasco, extending to the north over the western Gulf of Mexico and eastern Mexico, continuing to flow in a circular motion to the east along the northern Gulf of Mexico and southeastern U.S. out to the Florida panhandle. The smoke is also extending south over the Pacific ocean outside of our area of operations. The plume appears to consist of smoke from seasonal fires in the region, in addition to gas flaring activity in the Bay of Campeche as well as isolated urban pollution/aerosols. Several insignificant light plumes of smoke due to agricultural burning were noted throughout the area of coverage today.
