DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z February 11, 2021


SMOKE:
South Florida…
Agricultural burning activity was observed around the Lake Okeechobee
region of South Florida. Light density smoke was observed from a few
of the fires progressing northward in this morning’s GOES visible
satellite imagery.

Southern Mexico/Southwestern Gulf of Mexico…
A region of light density smoke was observed over parts of Southern
Mexico including the states of Tabasco and parts of Veracruz. Light
density smoke was also observed over a portion of the Southwestern Gulf
of Mexico in this morning’s GOES visible satellite imagery.

DUST:
West African Coast/Eastern Atlantic Ocean…
A region of light density Saharan dust was observed over parts of the
West African Coast and Eastern Atlantic Ocean in the morning’s GOES
visible satellite imagery.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
