DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z February 26, 2021
SMOKE: Eastern Mexico/Western Gulf of Mexico... A large area of light density smoke was observed in this morning's GOES visible imagery over Eastern Mexico and extended into the Western Gulf of Mexico. This smoke is lingering from agricultural fires in the area yesterday. Southeast U.S. Coast... There may still be some lingering light density smoke over the Southeast and extending offshore this morning. The full extent of this could not be determined using GOES visible imagery due to cloud cover. DUST: Eastern/Tropical Atlantic Ocean... A vast area of Saharan Dust was covering most of the Central/Eastern Atlantic Ocean in this morning's GOES satellite imagery. The Dust appeared to be of relatively light density closer to the Caribbean Islands with areas of medium density dust near the Western coast of Africa. Coverdale THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
