DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Central and Eastern United States…. An area of light density smoke from the large number of fires over the Central Plains yesterday was seen extending from portions of West Virginia, western Virginia and western North Carolina west into portions of the Central Plains states. Florida to Texas Gulf Coast Region, Bahamas, Cuba, Gulf of Mexico, Central America, Mexico and the Eastern Pacific Ocean…. A very large area of mostly light density smoke, from the large number of fires over the past few days over the southeastern United States, Mexico and Central America, was extending from the southwest Atlantic Ocean, just east of the Bahamas, west and southwest through the Gulf of Mexico and coastal regions of the United States and eastern Mexico, the southwest Caribbean Sea through southern Mexico and northern Central America and into the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean. DUST: Pacific Northwest…. An area of dust from portions of Asia was seen pushing into portions of the Pacific northwest of Oregon and northern California. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
