DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z March 20, 2021
SMOKE:
Central Plains, Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma...
Widespread agricultural fires produced numerous light to moderate density
smoke plumes primarily located in Oklahoma. Smoke plume movement was
primarily to the south over Texas. Additional plumes were observed moving
northward in Kansas with some crossing into southern Nebraska.
Texas...
Scattered fire activity in the north-central and southeastern portions
of the state was emitting light to moderate density smoke moving
southward. Fire activity was more concentrated and plumes were observed
moving quickly southward on the Texas Gulf coast and far southernmost
tip of Texas.
Florida...
Agricultural burning activity was observed throughout Florida causing
two large Light density smoke plumes progressing eastward towards the
Atlantic Ocean.
Mexico, Gulf of Mexico, Eastern Pacific Ocean...
A large region of light to moderate density smoke was observed over most
of Coastal eastern and southern Mexico extending out across the Gulf
of Mexico. Light density smoke was also observed over parts of Southern
Mexico and the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The plumes appears to consist of
smoke from heavy seasonal burning in the region, gas flaring activity,
as well as urban pollution/aerosols. Agricultural burning activity was
observed throughout Mexico causing a large number of light to moderate
density smoke plumes.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
