DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z March 23, 2021
SMOKE: Southeastern United States... Widespread agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity was observed mostly over South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, where light to moderate density smoke was observed from the fire activity. Light to moderate density smoke was also observed over parts of Northwestern and South Florida in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery. Cuba... Widespread seasonal fire activity was observed over most of Cuba with light to moderate density smoke observed over most of the region in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery. Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Southern Texas/Eastern Pacific Ocean... Widespread agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity was observed in Mexico including Eastern, Central, Southeastern, Southwestern, and Southern Mexico, where large regions of light and moderate density smoke were observed from the widespread fire activity. Smoke from offshore drilling platforms in the Bay of Campeche was also observed in satellite imagery. Smoke was also observed off shore out over the Southern and Western Gulf of Mexico as well as several hundered miles offshore out over parts of the Eastern Pacific Ocean in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery. DUST: West Texas/Northern Mexico... A large region of blowing dust progressing eastward behind a weather system that is present over Northern Texas was observed over most of West Texas as well as over parts of the Texas Panhandle and over parts of Northern Mexico in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
