Gulf of Mexico into the Southeastern CONUS and Mid-Atlantic… A layer of light density remnant smoke was observed covering an area from the Bay of Campeche, western and central Gulf Of Mexico, and along the northern Gulf Coast. This area may extend into the Mid-Atlantic and off the Mid-Atlantic coast, as light density remnant smoke is observed there as well, but cloud cover due to convection over the southeast inhibits analysis of smoke in between. Eastern Texas into eastern Kansas… Widespread smoke-producing fire activity across eastern Texas, with more scattered smoke production across eastern Oklahoma and eastern Kansas, was observed throughout the afternoon. Varying density smoke from this fire activity was mainly moving off toward the north. Florida… Fires throughout the Florida Peninsula were observed emitting mainly light smoke this afternoon. The smoke from these fires was mainly moving north, with one fire on the Florida Panhandle producing smoke that was moving northeast. Central and Northern Mexico… Scattered to widespread fire activity emitting smoke was observed from Sonora southeast into central Mexico and then north-northeast into Tamaulipas. Smoke from the vast majority of the fire activity was moving off toward the northeast or north-northeast. Fires closer to the Gulf Coast and across west-central Mexico were emitting fairly thick smoke while other fires were emitting more light to moderate density smoke. Central America… Fires across the Central America were also observed emitting mainly moderate smoke that was moving off toward the west-northwest. -Hosley THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
