Central U.S./Great Lakes Region… Mostly Light to moderate density smoke (with some small areas of heavy smoke) from recent rounds of intense seasonal burning and a few embedded wildfires across portions of the Central U.S. was seen today extending from central Kansas and eastern Oklahoma to the northeast to the western and central Great Lakes region reaching as far as Lake Superior and the southern part of Ontario. The thickest portion of the smoke stretched from eastern Kansas and eastern Oklahoma northeastward over the Missouri/Iowa boarder, through Illinois, Indiana, into Ohio and Michigan. Southern Mexico/Northern Central America/Pacific south of Mexico and Central America… A large region of thin density smoke from the ongoing seasonal fire activity in southern Mexico and Central America was visible today over much of southern Mexico and Northern Central America and extending well offshore to the south over the Pacific. Within this large region of thin density smoke were smaller patches of moderately dense to even thick smoke which emanated from fires in southern Mexico coast and spread to the south off the coast.
