DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southeast U.S./Ohio Valley/Mid-Atlantic/Atlantic... A large region of remnant light to moderate density smoke from yesterday’s widespread agricultural and seasonal fire activity was observed over most of the coastal regions of the southeast U.S. including most of Georgia and the Carolinas. Light density smoke was also observed over parts of the eastern Ohio Valley, parts of the Mid-Atlantic, and offshore out over parts of the western Atlantic. Light to moderate density smoke was detected from numerous new fires in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Florida... Agricultural burning activity was observed in the vicinity of Lake Okeechobee where light density smoke from the small fires was observed moving southwestward. Pacific Northwest… A number of small light density plumes from seasonal fires were detected over parts of Washington and Oregon. The plumes were moving off to the east-northeast. Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Pacific... Large regions of light density smoke from recent widespread seasonal fire activity across most of Mexico were observed over parts of eastern coastal Mexico as well as out over parts of the western Gulf of Mexico. Light density smoke was also observed over coastal southwestern Mexico and for several hundred miles offshore over parts of the Pacific. DUST: Atlantic... A large region of light density Saharan dust was observed over the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. New Mexico/Texas... A narrow plume of blowing dust was detected moving east-southeast from northwestern New Mexico extending to east-central New Mexico into the Texas Panhandle. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
