DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z April 8, 2021
SMOKE: Eastern U.S./Atlantic... A large light density plume was detected across the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, Tennessee Valley, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and extending offshore approximately 1400 miles over the western Atlantic. This smoke was from recent days of concentrated seasonal fire activity and a few embedded wildfires. Mexico/Pacific... A number of small light density plumes from new agricultural fires were detected near the southwestern Mexico coast. A large light density plume from previous days’ agricultural fires was detected from along the Mexico Pacific coast extending west-southwestward for about 1000 miles out over the open Pacific. DUST: Atlantic... A large light density Saharan dust plume covers most of the central and eastern tropical Atlantic. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
