DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1610Z April 12, 2021
SMOKE: Central/Southeastern U.S… A large plume consisting of light smoke from previous day agricultural fires along the Great Plains (specially Kansas and Oklahoma) is moving eastward across Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, southern Kentucky and northern Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Fire activity persists along the Great Plains this morning although scattered cloud coverage prevents plume observations. Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Guatemala/Belize… A second large plume of predominantly moderate density smoke is seen covering most of the southern half Gulf of Mexico, central-southern Mexico (including the Yucatan Peninsula), Guatemala and Belize. The plume consists of remnant smoke from recent fire activity across central-southern Mexico and Central America. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
