THROUGH 0130Z May 9, 2021
SMOKE: Southeastern CONUS... A significant amount of seasonal fires were observed across southeastern U.S. along with smoke plumes of thin density spreading to the north and northeast. Northern California... Two complex fires were observed in northern California producing large light density smoke plumes moving to the SSE. Mexico/Central America/Pacific south of Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Gulf of Mexico... The ongoing significant amount of seasonal fires occurring in Mexico and Central America were responsible for a large area of thin to moderate density smoke covering central, southern, and eastern Mexico, the northwestern part of Central America, a portion of the Pacific south of Mexico and Central America, the Bay of Campeche, and much of the western Gulf of Mexico. Embedded areas of thicker smoke were seen around some of the larger fires especially in southern Mexico. DUST: New Mexico/Northern Mexico... Some blowing dust was seen across southeastern New Mexico and northern Mexico which was moving to the northeast. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
