DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Oregon... Oregon... In central Oregon two light to heavy density smoke plumes attributed to wildfires were visible with the smoke moving south in direction. Arizona… In central Arizona a light to moderate density smoke plumes attributed to wildfires was observed moving northeast in direction. Saskatchewan/Manitoba/North Dakota, Minnesota... Widespread agricultural burning was visible over southern Manitoba/Saskatchewan and North Dakota. This produced a large area of light density smoke, with small pockets of moderate density smoke was visible over southern Manitoba, the eastern half of the Dakotas,and western Minnesota. Texas, Louisiana, Gulf of Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Mexico/Central America/Pacific south of Mexico... A large area of light to moderate density smoke remains in the area covering much of northern Mexico and all of central/southern Mexico, Central America, a portion of the Pacific south of Mexico, the Bay of Campeche, and the most of the Gulf of Mexico and extends north into southern Texas and Louisiana. Embedded patches of moderate to heavy density smoke were visible in association with some of the more active fires especially in Mexico, and along the coasts. This entire area of smoke was due mainly to the ongoing seasonal fires in Mexico and Central America. DUST: Eastern/Central Atlantic Ocean and east of the Lesser Antilles... Earlier today light density Saharan dust was observed just to the southeast of the Lesser Antilles region of the Eastern Caribbean in this morning’s GOES visible satellite imagery. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
