THROUGH 0045Z August 9, 2021
SMOKE: Canada/CONUS... Smoke originating primarily from wildfires across the western U.S. and central Canada continues to affect a very large area covering the majority of the Conterminous U.S. and Canada. The heaviest concentration smoke is seen over central-northern California, central-northern Nevada and Utah, southern Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Iowa, in addition to southern Saskatchewan, central-southern Manitoba, western Ontario and southern Quebec. Areas of moderate smoke extend over New Mexico, Oklahoma, and the Great Lakes area. Lighter smoke is seen over nearly the entirety of the remaining states and provinces. The bulk of the smoke is moving eastward with the large scale atmospheric flow and in the general direction of the northwestern Atlantic. Additional light density plumes linked to long-range smoke transport from central Siberia are observed over northern Alaska and northwestern Canada. DUST: Puerto Rico/Eastern and Southeastern Caribbean… A thin layer of Saharan dust was visible spreading slowly to the west across the Windward and Leeward Islands and nearing Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
