DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: United States and Southern Canada…. Fire activity over much of the Pacific Northwest United States and British Columbia was producing a very large area of smoke that extended over most of the United States and southern Canada and into portions of the northwest Atlantic Ocean. Within this large area of smoke, several areas of moderate to high density smoke were seen with those being a small area just south of the New England coast and then further west a much larger area over the central and northern Rockies and the entire west coast of the United States to southern British Columbia. The highest density smoke was from the northern Rockies west to the Pacific northwest and then south to northern California. Alaska... A broad area of smoke probably attributed to recent wildfire activity in Siberia was seen stretching over most of Alaska and off the western Alaskan coast as well. Cloud cover over much of the Lower 48 and Canada precluded further smoke analysis DUST: Caribbean Sea…. An area of Saharan dust was seen over portions of the central Caribbean Sea. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
