DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z August 26, 2021

SMOKE:
Most of the United States and Canada...
Fires ongoing over the western United States and southern British
Columbia were producing a large area of light to medium density smoke
that was covering most of the northern portion of the United States,
and also over much of Canada. Further to the north, mostly light-medium
density smoke was observed over central and northern Canada from fire
activity over western/northwestern Canada and probably smoke from the
recent wildfires in Siberia is mixed in as well.

DUST:
Atlantic/Caribbean…
A large area of Saharan Dust was seen over much of the Tropical Atlantic
Ocean and extending west through the Caribbean Sea.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
