DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z August 30, 2021
SMOKE: Western U.S./Central Rocky Mountains and Great Plains… Numerous wildfires in a region stretching from southern British Columbia to northern California were observed producing plumes of thick smoke emanating eastward as far as western Wyoming before gradually thinning out to light-density smoke as far east as Illinois. Manitoba/Northern Ontario/Hudson Bay… A cluster of wildfires in west-central Manitoba was observed to be producing thick smoke extending southeast across the province, with thinner smoke observed over the remainder of Manitoba, as well as southwestern Hudson Bay area and much of northwestern Ontario. DUST: Central Caribbean... An area of Saharan dust was observed over the Caribbean Sea extending from Puerto Rico to eastern Cuba and southward to just north of the South American coast. MTC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
