DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2355Z September 2, 2021
SMOKE: Central-Western U.S./Southeastern Manitoba/Western Ontario... A large area of light-to-moderate density smoke extends eastward from northern California and Oregon, passing through Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, and covering most of the Great Plains, and continuing from there further to the south toward coastal Texas and Louisiana and into the northern Gulf of Mexico, and to the north toward southeastern Manitoba, western Ontario and into the Hudson Bay. Pockets of heavy density smoke are seen across northern California and western Oregon where multiple wildfires continue to burn, dispersing northeastward through northern Nevada, central-southern Idaho and Montana, central-northern Wyoming and western Montana. Additional areas of higher smoke concentration are seen along northeastern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, and also over parts of eastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas, and northeastern Texas. DUST: Central-eastern Gulf of Mexico/Cuba/Northwestern Caribbean Sea... An unusually large area of moderate density Saharan dust could be seen covering the central-eastern Gulf of Mexico, Cuba and the northwestern Caribbean Sea. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
