DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Northwestern, Northern and Midwestern U.S. ... A large plume originating primarily from wildfires in northern California, Oregon and Washington is seen covering those three states while extending eastward into Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, northern Colorado, in addition to the entire Midwestern U.S. Heavy smoke impacts northern California, Oregon and eastern Washington, northern Nevada, Idaho, central-southern Montana and Wyoming, in addition to a smaller pocket covering eastern Nebraska and Kansas, and southwestern Iowa and northwestern Missouri. The smoke is traveling predominantly toward the east in the general direction of New England. Lower Mississippi... An area of light-density smoke linked to numerous agricultural fires is seen covering the Lower Mississippi south of Memphis and into the northern Gulf of Mexico. Northwestern Atlantic... A patch of smoke from previous days fire activity in the western U.S. is observed traveling eastward off the coast of New England and Newfoundland. DUST: Eastern Caribbean... An area of light-density Saharan dust is traveling westward across the eastern Caribbean affecting Hispaniola and the Atlantic waters just north of it. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
