SMOKE: Atlantic... A light to moderate density detached plume leftover from western U.S. wildfires covered the area just of the Mid-Atlantic to Bermuda. Another thin density plume, also left over from western U.S. wildfires, was detected east of Bermuda for several hundred miles. Yet another detached thin density plume was found extending northeast of Newfoundland to a few hundred miles southwest of Iceland. Continental U.S./Canada/Mexico... A large thin density plume from western U.S. wildfires covered much of the Desert Southwest, the Great Basin, parts of the Rockies and most of the Plains, the Midwest, the Great Lakes region, the Ohio Valley, and Mid-Atlantic. This same thin density plume also covered a large part of south-central and southeastern Canada, and parts of northwestern Mexico and Baja California. Within this thin density plume, a moderate density plume was found over parts of the Desert Southwest extending northeastward to south-central Canada and southeastward over the Great Lakes into parts of the Mid-Atlantic. A detached moderate density plume was located over southeastern Texas. A thick density plume from wildfires in the San Joaquin Valley in California was spread across parts of southern California, the Great Basin, Arizona, and the central Rockies extending northeastward through the Northern Plains and south-central Canada Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
