DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z September 28, 2021
SMOKE: Southwestern/Central U.S., Canada, and Mexico/Pacific... The KNP Complex fire in the Sequoia National Park of southern California continued to produce an area of light (with large areas of moderate to thick) smoke extending from the Pacific off the U.S. west coast inland and covers the most of the western U.S., the central U.S., northern Mexico, and continues inland where it is combining with smoke from recent heavy seasonal burning then extends north into central Canada and through sections of the eastern United States over the Atlantic Ocean south of New England. A large area of heavy density smoke covered southern California and extends northeast over Nevada/Utah/Arizona and extends north into Idaho and Colorado. Smoke also travels to the southwest approximately 1,400 miles over the Pacific Ocean. Several wildfires were also observed over central Idaho and central-southern Montana producing light to locally moderate smoke progressing mostly to the northeast. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
