DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1520Z October 4, 2021
SMOKE: Central and North Central Canada, Northern Plains and Northern Rockies…. A large area of smoke, with contributions from ongoing fires over east central Saskatchewan and over western Montana, was extending from north central Canada south into western Ontario, eastern and southern Manitoba and into east central Saskatchewan and also extending south into the Northern Plains and Northern Rockies of the United States. Within this area of smoke, moderate to high density smoke was extending from western Ontario, eastern and southern Manitoba, east central Saskatchewan south into Minnesota. Central United States south towards the north central Gulf of Mexico and into southern Texas…. An area of thin smoke with likely contributions from the fire activity over western Montana and over California, was extending from Illinois and eastern Iowa south to the north central Gulf of Mexico coastal areas and then west through southern Texas and into eastern New Mexico. California, Nevada, Idaho and Oregon…. Fire activity over the central and southern Sierras in California was producing an area of moderate to high density smoke that extended from northern Nevada into most of central California. An area of lighter density smoke extended from southwest Idaho through northern Nevada, southern Oregon central and northern California and into the offshore Pacific Ocean. DUST: Eastern Caribbean/Central and Eastern Atlantic… A large area of Saharan dust was seen covering much of the eastern and central Atlantic Ocean and then extending west through the eastern Caribbean Islands and into the central Caribbean. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
