DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z October 19, 2021
SMOKE: Southeastern U.S./Lower Mississippi Valley/Northern Gulf of Mexico... Agricultural fire activity was observed over parts of the Southeastern U.S. and Lower Mississippi Valley. Light density remnant smoke from the agricultural burning activity was observed over parts of Alabama and Mississippi. Light density smoke was also observed over parts of Southeastern Texas, Southern Louisiana, and over the Northern Gulf of Mexico this morning. Northwestern U.S including Western Oregon... Wildfire activity was observed over parts of Western Oregon, however cloud cover from a weather system progressing towards the region has made smoke analysis difficult today. Dust: Central and Eastern Tropical Atlantic/Eastern Caribbean Sea... A large region of moderate density Saharan dust was observed over the Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic. Light density Saharan dust was also observed over parts of the Eastern Caribbean Sea including the Lesser Antilles this morning. Sambucci THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
