DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z November 3, 2021
SMOKE: Central and Eastern Gulf Coast Region… Patches of thin density smoke leftover mainly from yesterday’s round of agricultural and seasonal fire activity over the Southeast was seen this morning over portions of southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, southern Georgia, northern Florida, and the nearby north central and northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Southern Florida… Numerous primarily thin density smoke plumes from relatively short duration agricultural fires were visible moving to the west generally around the southern periphery of Lake Okeechobee in southern Florida. South Central Canada… A rather small area of remnant thin density smoke from yesterday’s agricultural/seasonal fire activity in south central Canada and North Dakota was seen this morning moving to the northeast over southern Manitoba. Northwestern U.S./Western Canada… No leftover smoke could be seen in satellite imagery this morning despite the significant amount of agricultural/seasonal type fire activity that has been occurring over the Northwestern U.S. and portions of British Columbia and Alberta in western Canada in recent days. Rather widespread cloudiness moving across the region did interfere with satellite detection of any smoke which may be present there. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
