DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0150Z November 21, 2021

SMOKE:
South Central and Southeastern U.S., Gulf Coast...
Moderate agricultural burning activity could be seen across the South
Central and Southeastern U.S. resulting in numerous plumes of smoke that
are mainly light in density with some having moderate density smoke near
their sources, most of the plumbs were located in Alabama, Mississippi,
and eastern Texas. A larger area of light density smoke was observed
over the southeastern U.S. stretching from eastern Texas, east through
the Gulf States, then ending in eastern Georgia.

Alberta...
A wildfire in northern Alberta was emitting a plumb of light to moderated
density smoke which was moving generally east in direction. This was
seen through breaks in the clouds preventing further analysis.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
