DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0112Z November 22, 2021

SMOKE:
Southeastern U.S., Gulf Coast...
An area of light density smoke was observed over the southeastern
U.S. stretching from far eastern Texas, east through most of the Gulf
States, south into The Gulf of Mexico along the coast, then ending in
southeastern Alabama.

Arizona...
A Wildfire in eastern Arizona was emitting a plumb of light to moderated
density smoke which was moving southwest in direction before it extends
under cloud covered.

Missouri...
Two light density smoke plumbs were observed in southern Missouri from
seasonal burning activity. The light density smoke plumbs were moving
south in direction with one entering northern Arkansas as evening
approached.

Much of the seasonal burning areas were cloud covered today preventing
further smoke analysis.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
