DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z November 30, 2021

SMOKE:
Northern Gulf of Mexico/Southeastern U.S...
Agricultural burning activity was observed over parts of the Southeastern
U.S. including Georgia, Florida, and other portions of the region. Remnant
light density smoke was observed from yesterday’s fire activity in the
region to the northeast over parts of Southern Virginia and Northern North
Carolina south of a weather system. Remnant light density smoke was also
observed to the southwest over parts of the Northeastern Gulf Coast, the
Northern Gulf of Mexico, over parts of Southeastern Alabama, Southwestern
Georgia, and over Northwestern Florida. Agricultural burning activity
was also observed south of Lake Okeechobee in South Florida emitting
light density smoke in this morning’s GOES visible satellite imagery.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
