DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z December 8, 2021

SMOKE:
Western CONUS…
Fire activity from California into Oregon was observed producing smoke
this evening. Smoke within the valleys of California was mainly moving
south-southeast while smoke above the valleys and at the Pacific Coast
was moving westward.

Mid-Atlantic…
Scattered fire activity across Virginia was producing light to moderate
smoke. The smoke was moving various directions, with the implication of
a high pressure center over northern Virginia.

Florida…
Agricultural burning was producing smoke across the area around and south
of Lake Okeechobee. The light smoke was moving southeast then east out
offshore to near the Bahamas before sunset.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
