DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0104Z December 15, 2021

SMOKE:
Southeast U.S. ...
Agricultural burning activity was observed throughout the southeastern
corner of the U.S. this late afternoon and evening. Fires were emitting
both light density smoke plumes that were generally moving towards
the west.

AEROSOL/Smoke:
Bay of Campeche/Eastern/Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico,Gulf
of Mexico...
Atmospheric pollution likely associated with scattered seasonal burning,
gas flaring as well as other industrial and urban activities could be
seen along the Pacific shoreline of southwestern and southern Mexico
extending from the states of Jalasco in the northwest corner, extends
down to Guerrero in the southeast, and out over the Pacific Ocean along
this coastal area. An area of moderate Atmospheric pollution was seen
along the coastal area of Michoacán.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
