DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0031Z December 23, 2021
SMOKE: Texas... Two smoke plumbs, one light to heavy density smoke and one of light density smoke were observed in central Texas and southeastern Texas from seasonal burning activity. The smoke plumbs were moving generally north in direction as evening approached. The heavier density smoke plumb was located in southeast Texas along the coast just north of Corpus Christie. Southern Florida... Numerous agricultural fires primarily around Lake Okeechobee in southern Florida and central Florida were emitting thin density smoke plumes which moved quickly off to the southeast throughout the day. AEROSOL: Southern Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific South of Mexico/Western Bay of Campeche/Western Gulf of Mexico/Eastern Mexico… The usual aerosol attributed primarily to other atmospheric pollutants including factory emissions and emissions from gas/oil flaring was seen again today across and eastern Mexico, the Bay of Campeche, the western Gulf of Mexico, portions of southern Mexico, northwestern Central America, and the tropical eastern Pacific south of Mexico and northwestern Central America. Some leftover and current smoke from seasonal fire activity in Mexico and previous fires in northwestern Central America may also be contributing to this aerosol. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
