THROUGH 0000Z December 29, 2021
SMOKE: North Carolina/South Carolina… A few fires were observed to be producing small plumes of light smoke, primarily extending northeastward. Elsewhere across the southeastern U.S., while numerous fires were detected throughout the afternoon, widespread scattered cloud cover prevented analysis of any further possible smoke plumes. Oklahoma… A wildfire in eastern Comanche County was observed emitting medium-density smoke east-northeastward extending to southeast of Oklahoma City. Another fire in southern Kiowa County was also observed producing light smoke extending eastward. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Gulf of Mexico/Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico and Central America, Southern Texas… A typical mix of smoke and aerosols from seasonal burning and oil and gas flaring was observed this afternoon along much of the Mexican coast along the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Bay of Campeche extending northward over the western Gulf, reaching as far as far southern Texas. Earlier smoke and aerosols were also observed along the Pacific coast of Mexico and extending southward into Guatemala. DUST: New Mexico/Texas… Two plumes of dust could be seen near sunset blowing eastward from near the New Mexico/Texas border eastward across north Texas as far as Wichita Falls and just west of Fort Worth.
