DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z January 23, 2021
SMOKE:
Central Plains/Mid Mississippi River Valley...
Agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity was observed over parts of
the Central Plains including Kansas and Oklahoma and the Mid Mississippi
River Valley including Arkansas, Missouri, and Southern Illinois. Light
density smoke was observed from most of the fire activity in this
evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery.
Central/Southern Florida...
Agricultural burning and seasonal fire activity was observed over parts
of Central and Southern Florida. Light density smoke was observed from
most of the fire activity progressing eastward towards the Atlantic
Ocean in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery.
Southwestern Gulf of Mexico/Southern Coastal Mexico...
Light density smoke was observed from offshore drilling platforms in the
Southwestern Gulf of Mexico progressing northwestward. Light to moderate
density smoke was observed over Coastal Southern Mexico in the Northern
Tabasco region progressing westward in this evening’s GOES visible
satellite imagery.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
