DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z June 6, 2021

SMOKE:
Due to cloud coverage over most of the CONUS, majority of smoke plumes
were not visible in satellite imagery this morning and early afternoon.

Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana...
Fire in northeast Oregon on the border of Washington continues but due
to cloud coverage, no smoke plumes was visible.

Southeastern Arizona...
The Mescal and Telegraph wildfire complexes in Southeastern Arizona were
emitting light to moderate density smoke progressing east into New Mexico
and then is swept south extending to the Mexico boarder.

Dust...
Southeastern Caribbean Sea and Central/Eastern Tropical Atlantic Ocean...
A large region of light density Saharan dust was observed over parts of
the Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
