THROUGH 1700Z January 26, 2022
SMOKE: No significant areas of aerosol which were composed of primarily or entirely of smoke were visible in satellite imagery this morning outside of a relatively small patch of smoke over the southwestern Dominican Republic, southeastern Haiti, and the nearby Caribbean which was attributed to ongoing wildfires in the southwestern Dominican Republic. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Bay of Campeche/Southern and Eastern and Southern Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico and Central America/Cuba/Caribbean… A combination of aerosols from oil and gas flaring and other industrial pollution sources along with smoke from regional seasonal fire activity was visible this morning across a portion of southern Mexico and northwestern Central America and extending well off the coast of southern Mexico and Central America over the eastern Pacific Ocean. Similar and relatively smaller patches of this aerosol and smoke combination were seen over a part of southeastern Mexico and the Bay of Campeche and over southern and eastern Cuba and extending offshore over the Caribbean between Cuba and Jamaica.
