DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: South Central and Southeastern U.S… Agricultural burning activity was observed throughout the South-central U.S. and the southeastern U.S., fires throughout the area were emitting light to moderate density smoke plumes with occasional heavier smoke at the sources. Smoke plumbs from Louisiana east were generally moving towards the east, fires west of Louisiana were generally moving northeast in direction as evening approached. South Florida... Agricultural burning activity was observed around the Lake Okeechobee region of South Florida. Light to heavy density plumbs of smoke were observed progressing to the southwest. California... Seasonal burning activity in northern California was emitting light density smoke which was last seen moving northwest in direction. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Bay of Campeche/Southern Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico and Central America/Cuba/Caribbean… A combination of mainly thin density aerosols from oil and gas flaring and other industrial pollution sources along with leftover smoke from regional seasonal fire activity was visible today across a portion of southern Mexico and northwestern Central America and extending well off the coast of southern Mexico and Central America over the eastern Pacific Ocean. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
