DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1731Z March 7, 2022

SMOKE:
Southeastern U.S...
A large fire complex was still burning this morning in the Florida
panhandle to the northeast of Panama City near the Tenmile Swamp and Green
Bay Swamp. It was observed through passing cloud cover and was producing
at least light to moderate density smoke moving north before it became
fully cloud covered. Other seasonal activity was noted throughout the
southeastern U.S. but cloud cover preceded further analysis.

Eastern U.S. ...
A broad area of remnant light density smoke from recent heavy agricultural
burning was seen along the eastern coastal region of the U.S. extending
from eastern Virginia to the east over the Atlantic Ocean approximately
560 miles off the coast of Maryland and Delaware.

SMOKE/AEROSOL:
Southeastern Texas and Southern Louisiana/Bay of Campeche/Gulf of
Mexico/Central, Southern, and Eastern Mexico/Northwestern Central
America/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico and Central America...
The combination of light to moderate density smoke from seasonal fires
in Mexico and Central America along with other atmospheric pollutants
including aerosols from oil and gas flaring and other industries in the
region was visible this evening across portions of central, southern, and
eastern Mexico, most of the Gulf of Mexico, most of the Bay of Campeche,
northwestern Central America, and extending well off the southern coast
of Mexico and northwestern Central America over the Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
