DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z March 22, 2022

SMOKE:
Southeastern U.S…
Seasonal agricultural burning and fire activity producing light smoke
plumes was visible this evening in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South
Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. The majority of the fire activity
was concentrated in Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama with the smoke
progressing northwestward this evening.

SMOKE/AEROSOLS:
Western Gulf of Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Southern and Eastern Mexico/Coastal
Central America/Pacific Ocean Well South of Mexico…
A large mass of light to moderate density smoke mixed with aerosols
from oil and gas flaring and other industrial sources in Mexico was
visible this evening. Smoke and aerosols were observed over all of the
Western Gulf of Mexico, most of the Bay of Campeche, southern and all
of eastern Mexico, coastal Central America, and extending well to the
south/southwest over the Pacific Ocean this evening.

DUST:
Southwest U.S/Texas/Northern Mexico…
Blowing dust was observed over a large portion of northern Mexico
progressing eastward behind a weather system into south Texas. Blowing
dust was also observed over southern New Mexico and western/northwestern
Texas behind a weather system progressing northeastward towards
Oklahoma. Blowing dust was observed over parts of southeastern California
and southern Arizona this evening.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
