THROUGH 1600Z April 6, 2022
SMOKE: South Florida… A few light smoke plumes were observed moving north and northeast from agricultural burning near and south of Lake Okeechobee. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Florida Peninsula/Gulf Coast/Gulf of Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Eastern Mexico/Central America/Pacific/Western Caribbean... A large area of thin smoke was present across the western Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and surrounding land areas including the Yucatan, eastern Mexico, and the Gulf Coast. The smoke is moving northwestward from Central America and the Yucatan into the Gulf of Mexico, where the smoke then starts moving northeastward. A cold front over the southern Plains is limiting the northward extent. The thin smoke the continues eastward across Florida into the Atlantic Ocean ahead of a second cold front. The smoke/aerosol sources are widespread agricultural burning across Mexico and Central America coupled with gas flaring activities in the Bay of Campeche and the Mexican coastal plain south of the Bay of Campeche. DUST: Eastern Colorado... Blowing dust was observed lofting from east of Denver, CO and being brought southeastward toward Kit Carson, CO.
