DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z June 26, 2022

SMOKE:
Central and Eastern United States, Mexico, and Southeastern Canada…
Thick smoke from a couple of large fires in north and east Texas was
observed moving primarily northward and westward. Additional moderate
smoke was observed extending over southern Oklahoma. Light remnant smoke
from these fires and seasonal agricultural burning activity extended from
northeastern Mexico across much of the eastern U.S. and into southern
Ontario and Quebec, as well as portions of the Gulf of Mexico. Additional
light smoke was observed in southern Mexico and over the Bay of Campeche.

Alaska and Northern Canada….
Thick smoke was observed emanating from a number of wildfires across
Alaska. Large areas of moderate smoke were also observed over much of
south-central and eastern Alaska. Light smoke from these fires extended
over the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Additional fires burning
in Northwest Territories and northern Alberta and Saskatchewan were
producing additional areas of moderate and thick smoke across those areas.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
