DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1540Z July 31, 2022
SMOKE: Northern U.S./Southern Canada... A large area of mostly light density smoke, from the fires ongoing over the Western United States, was extending across most of the northern portions of the United States and southern Canada to portions of the northern New England and portions of eastern Quebec. Within this area, a rather large area of high density smoke was seen near the ongoing fire activity and extending from northern California north through much of Oregon and east through Idaho, northern Nevada, southern Montana, parts of Wyoming and northern Utah and Colorado. Another area of moderate density smoke was seen well to the east over portions of eastern Quebec and New Brunswick. Southeastern United States Coastal Locations…. An area of light density smoke from the western United States fire activity that might also be mixed with some Saharan Dust was seen along coastal locations of the Southeastern United States extending from northern Florida to North Carolina and extending offshore. DUST: Tropical Atlantic and Caribbean Sea... An area of Saharan dust extended across the Tropical Atlantic and through the eastern and central Caribbean Islands and was approaching the western Caribbean Sea. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
