DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southern Canada/Northwestern U.S./Great Plains/Western Great Lakes... An area of light to moderate smoke from the numerous wildfires across the Pacific northwest region was observed extending eastward as far as western Quebec and the western Great Lakes region, extending southward through the Great Plains to the Texas Panhandle. A few areas of moderate smoke were observed within this area, including parts of Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, and northern California which was also producing dense smoke. A band or moderate density smoke was seen stretching from southern Alberta east to the James Bay. In addition, most of the fires in the northwest became cloud covered by this evenings smoke analysis. Atlantic Ocean off eastern United States... An area of generally light density smoke was observed off the east coast of the U.S. south of New England and Nova Scotia. DUST: Tropical Atlantic, Caribbean Sea... An area of Saharan dust was observed extending from the west African coast across the tropical Atlantic Ocean to near the central Caribbean Sea before running into cloud cover. An additional area of Saharan dust was seen off the U.S. southeast Atlantic coast north of the Bahamas. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
