THROUGH 1600Z September 8, 2022
SMOKE: Northwestern and Central CONUS and south-central Canada… A sizable area of smoke was seen blanketing an area from the Pacific Northwest and northern California west across the Great Basin and Intermountain West. From there, the smoke is drawn east-northeastward across the Dakotas, Minnesota, southern Manitoba, and western Ontario. Then, from these areas, the smoke is drawn south and southwest over the western Great Lakes, the Great Plains and the Front Range. The parent fire activity resides across southern British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West. Eastern CONUS/Eastern Canada/Northwestern Atlantic/Greenland… Remnant smoke from the fire activity in the northwestern CONUS and southwestern Canada over the past week or so has been analyzed across the Mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, the northeastern CONUS, the St Lawrence River Valley, Maritime Canada, the Labrador Sea, and Greenland. The thickest smoke resides over western Labrador, the Labrador Sea, southern Greenland, and the Denmark Strait. Another, smaller portion of light remnant smoke was seen over eastern Texas, Louisiana, and northwestern portions of the Gulf of Mexico. Central and Southern California into the Pacific... Fires across southern California and the Sierra Nevada range were observed having produced smoke overnight that had reached out westward a couple hundred miles into the Pacific Ocean.
