DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z September 23, 2022
SMOKE: Northwestern U.S./Northern & Southern Canada... A large area of remnant light smoke from California wildfires and other wildfires across the western U.S. and western Canada began on the Pacific Ocean off the Californian Coast and extended along the U.S Western coast, engulfing parts of California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, and parts of the Northwest Territories where it starts to move south and east over Saskatchewan and Manitoba. A large patch of moderate smoke was observed over southern British Columbia and northern Washington. Southeastern/South-central United States/Atlantic Ocean/Gulf of Mexico... Light smoke was visible covering the Southeastern/South-central U.S., northern Gulf of Mexico, and areas to the east with the exception of central-southern Florida, this smoke is from recent heavy agricultural burning and residual smoke from the large wild fires out west. The light smoke was observed extending further east into the Atlantic Ocean, just east off of Virginia. Numerous small moderate density smoke, ranging from small plumes to decent size patches, from current agricultural burning were seen throughout the region for today’s analysis. Nguyen THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
