DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z December 2, 2022
SMOKE: Louisiana and eastern Texas… Scattered fire activity from Louisiana into eastern Texas was producing mainly light smoke with one fire producing moderate smoke. Smoke was moving west to northwest from the parent fire activity. Eastern Kansas… A single fire was observed producing light to perhaps moderate smoke that extended north-northeastward to the Nebraska border before sundown. Northern Mexico… Widespread fire activity was observed across the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The light to moderate smoke from this activity was moving northeastward From earlier: Southern Florida… A number of thin to very localized moderately dense smoke plumes associated with seasonal/agricultural fire activity were seen this morning spreading to the west to the south and west of Lake Okeechobee and nearly reaching the west coast of Florida. SMOKE/AEROSOL: Bay of Campeche/Southern and Southwestern Mexico/Pacific off the Southern Coast of Mexico… An area of thin density aerosol was detected over portions of the Bay of Campeche, southern and southwestern Mexico, and the Pacific Ocean just off the southern and southwestern coast of Mexico. This aerosol was believed to be composed of pollution from gas flaring in the Bay of Campeche and urban pollution in south-central Mexico, in addition to small contributions from seasonal fire activity in southern Mexico. JS/Hosley THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
