DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z December 13, 2022
SMOKE: Florida... Several agricultural fires south of Lake Okeechobee were observed producing light density smoke moving south/southeast. Western Canada... Prescribed fires in central Alberta were observed producing patches of light density smoke moving east/northeast. Several smaller areas of moderate dense smoke were seen closer to the source of the fires. Northern Mexico... Fire activity in northern Chihuahua was observed producing a large patch of light to moderate smoke moving northeast into southeastern New Mexico and eastern Texas. SMOKE/AEROSOLS: Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Western Gulf of Mexico/Pacific Ocean... A large area of remnant smoke and aerosol from seasonal fires in Mexico mixed with aerosols originating from gas flaring activity in Bay of Campeche and urban/industrial activity in Mexico continue to be monitored, with the large area encompassing southwestern and eastern Mexico, western Gulf of Mexico, and the Pacific Ocean south of Mexico. In addition to this, emissions from gas flaring in the Bay of Campeche were seen moving off toward the northwest. Nguyen THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
