DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2355Z January 8, 2023
SMOKE/AEROSOL: Western Gulf of Mexico/Eastern-Central-Southwestern Mexico/Pacific Ocean off the Southern Coast of Mexico and Northwest Central America… A large area of thin density smoke and aerosol mix could be seen this afternoon over the western Gulf of Mexico, eastern coastal Mexico, central Mexico, western coastal Mexico and extending offshore into the eastern Pacific Ocean. The smoke and aerosol mixture was likely due to industrial activities in Mexico and northwestern Central America along with some seasonal burning in those regions as well. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
