DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z February 13, 2023

SMOKE:
Cuba...
An area of predominantly light density smoke spanning approximately 250
miles across was observed this afternoon over central-eastern Cuba as
a result of widespread seasonal fire activity across the entire island.

SMOKE/AEROSOL/DUST:
Southern Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific Ocean south of
Southern Mexico and Northwestern Central America...
The large area of primarily thin density smoke from seasonal fire activity
mainly in Mexico and northern Central America mixed with aerosols from
industrial sources also in Mexico and northern Central America remained
visible this afternoon over southwestern Mexico, northwestern Central
America, and well off the southern coast of Mexico and northwestern
Central America over the Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
