DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z September 10, 2023
SMOKE: Canada/Central U.S... Intense wildfire activity continues to be observed across British Columbia, northern Alberta, and southern Northwest Territories, with heavy smoke covering northern British Columbia, northern Alberta, and central-southern Northwest Territories, and medium-density smoke expanding outward from those areas and reaching northern Saskatchewan and norther Manitoba. Additional light density smoke extended across most of Canada, as well as further to the south covering most of the U.S. Great Plains where mixing was seen with remnant smoke from agricultural burning in the Mississippi Valley and southeastern states. Southwestern Mexico... A plume of light density smoke was observed off the southwestern coast of Mexico extending for approximately 800 miles over the Pacific. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
