DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700 November 1, 2023
SMOKE: Central California/Northern Baja... Thin density residual smoke was visible this morning through parts of central California and extending southward. Wildfires located over northwestern Baja were seen with light to moderate smoke across the region. Eastern Arizona... Firres in east central Arizona were seen producing light density smoke plumes moving northward across the state. Mid-Atlantic/Southeast/Mississippi Valley... Several prescribed/agricultural burns were seen in Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and produced mostly light density smoke. AEROSOL/BLOWING DUST: Western Mexico coastline/Pacific Ocean... Patches of aerosol of generally thin density were seen along and off portions of the west Mexico coastline and over the Pacific Ocean. This aerosol was believed to be primarily composed of pollutants from industrial sources in Mexico. Some blowing dust is likely also present over this region JK THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
